When judging education, many of us look to our past experiences. However, a better gauge may be to judge how well our kids are performing. It is our expectation that schools will prepare our children to become successful adults. This must happen in their world of the 21st Century.
There is a lot of emphasis in schools today to increase student performance. I think in this environment, it is important to keep in mind what educators are already doing well with the students. Then, dispense with those tactics that are not working and keep those that are.
We all draw on our past when it comes to judging education. Better yet, we judge education by how well the children are doing. We want kids to be prepared to live successfully in the world when they become adults, and we expect schools to prepare them. Their world is the 21st Century.
